Description: At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to: Demonstrate approximately 100 basic signs to help understand common complaints of deaf patient Demonstrate the ASL alphabet and practice fingerspelling techniques Discuss deaf culture, and learn appropriate ways to get a deaf person’s attention during treatment Discuss when note writing is and is not an effective mode of communication for Deaf patients, and when a professional interpreter is needed
Have you ever had a deaf patient and been at a loss as to how to communicate? Do you want to learn a few basic signs that can make your job easier when treating deaf patients, and have fun doing it? Then this is the workshop for you! Come learn basic signs that can help you communicate with deaf patients like a pro! You will also learn how to get a deaf patient’s attention, when writing notes is appropriate and when it isn’t, and much more. Roll up your sleeves, and get ready to sign in this interactive workshop! Participants will leave the 2 hour workshop with a sign vocabulary of ~ 100 signs and the ability to fingerspell for Deaf patients.
