Injection therapy is the act of placing an anesthetic (lidocaine, bupivacaine) and/or a synthetic corticosteroid ( triamcinolone, methylprednisolone, etc) into a musculoskeletal soft tissue (bursa, joint, tendon sheath). Injections for various musculoskeletal pain syndromes may be an important part of the comprehensive medical management of the syndrome. It is an invasive procedure that must have the informed consent of the patient with the understanding of risk/benefit ratio. Although much observed and utilized, little scientific evaluation of injections has occurred so that much is based on clinical experience. Participants will have hands on experience with live, skeletal, and electronic models, including practicing proper injection technique, examining functional anatomy, and locating anatomical landmarks necessary to perform injection therapy.
