Description: At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to: Demonstrate professional attitudes and values by offering culturally sensitive care to Spanish-speaking clients in a variety of medical settings Improve quality of service to Spanish-speaking clients by acquiring intermediate level communication skills in Spanish appropriate to a variety of medical settings Utilize accurate pronunciation and sentence structure in meaningful, practical communication in the appropriate cultural context
This practical, interactive workshop takes the practicing physician assistant beyond intermediate competencies in Medical Spanish to the next level of linguistically competent care. Participants will learn how to offer linguistically and culturally appropriate care in the areas of family health, women’s health, cardiac/hypertensive care, pediatrics, and general medical/surgical care. This workshop is designed to challenge the physician assistant who has significant working knowledge of Spanish to go beyond what he is already familiar with to obtain more advanced competencies in medical Spanish. It is recommended that participants in this course have a minimum of two courses in basic medical Spanish and one course in intermediate Medical Spanish.
