Description: At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
Evaluate each case to determine whether the appropriate evaluation, examination, and documentation was done by the PA involved
Determine whether further testing or a consultation is required based on presentation of materials
Discuss factors relating to adequate physician supervision in each case
Explain the focus of the PA expert from the perspective of the side of plaintiff vs. defense
Describe and explain what a deposition is
Describe the purpose of a deposition and why a PA is involved
describe how to prepare for a deposition
identify some of the common pitfalls and questions that the plaintiff attorney may ask in order to discredit them
explain that a malpractice insurance policy is a contract and identify essential components
distinguish between the two major types of malpractice insurance and the coverage each offers
explain the criteria for determining malpractice premiums, including important options
discuss the nature of personal and vicarious liability and how they factor into malpractice exposure
discuss how much more there is to a deposition than just knowing medicine
explain how doing a deposition is only one part of a medical malpractice case
recognize that GOOD communication and documentation are vital (The Best Defense is a Good Offense)
describe how every patient encounter has the potential to lead to an allegation of medical malpractice
