Outline the evidence supporting that addiction is a chronic medical disorder like hypertension or asthma
Discuss important clinical trials on the effectiveness of treatment
Improve professional satisfaction and optimism related to addiction diagnosis and treatment

Science has revolutionized our fundamental ideas about addiction. Understanding the science behind the development and treatment of addiction can change the way care is delivered. This session will review the evidence and provide an alternative way of thinking about, and caring for, patients with addictive disorders.
