Description: At the conclusion of this presentation, participants will be able to: recognize acid/base abnormalities using routine lab tests describe the clinical significance of various acid-base disorders and their use in formulating a differential diagnosis explain treatment options
Although acid-base disorders are commonly misunderstood, misinterpreted or completely unrecognized, their utility can be crucial in making firm diagnoses. A systematic approach to metabolic and respiratory acid/base derangement is imperative. This talk is designed to first recognize that a disorder exists and then follow a logical sequence to narrow down the differential diagnosis and eventually treat the patient appropriately. This is not a biochemistry class but rather a very practical and clinically relevant approach to these confusing disorders.
