Recall key components and principles of motivational interviewing and brief negotiation
List specific brief negotiation techniques, including reflective listening, providing advice, importance/confidence ruler, and negotiating a plan of action
Demonstrate brief negotiation strategies to elicit self-motivational statements and a plan for change

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is an evidence-based counseling style designed to enhance patient change through clarification and resolution of ambivalence regarding target behaviors. Originally designed for work with substance abusers, MI has been extrapolated to other areas of behavior change. This session will provide an introduction to the principles and strategies of MI and brief negotiation.
