Description: At the conclusion of this presentation, participants will be able to:
List the different types of occupational exposures which may result in lung disease including inorganic and organic dusts, occupational allergens, gas, fume and smoke exposures
Identify the different types of responses/diseases the lungs may develop to occupational exposures, and how the diagnoses of these diseases is made
Explain how to diagnose pneumoconiosis, hypersensitivity pneumonitis, allergic airway disease - asthma, toxic pneumonitis
Identify some specific occupations which are associated with high risk for lung occupational lung disease and some examples of control measures and regulatory strategies to prevent disease.

Attendees will come away from this lecture with an understanding that occupational exposures may present significant risks for lung health. They will understand the importance of taking a careful occupational history, learn about sources of detailed information on occupational exposures for specific jobs. They will learn about the most common exposure risks and the disease which may be caused by these exposures. Attendees will also gain an understanding of what tools are used to make a diagnosis of occupational lung disease. They will also learn some specific examples of high risk jobs and what strategies are used to prevent disease, including legal/regulatory strategies, administrative controls, engineering controls, personal protective equipment, and medical surveillance techniques.
