Description: At the conclusion of this presentation, participants will be able to: Recognize normal vs abnormal growth velocity in children and adolescents Distinguish variations in the normal growth pattern seen in Familial Short Stature and Constitutional Delay of Growth Differentiate etiologies in the workup of pathological Short Stature Explain the role of growth hormone therapy
Short Stature in the pediatric and adolescent patient can occur as a normal variation of the growth pattern as seen in Familial Short Stature or Constitutional Delay of Growth. A missed or delayed diagnosis of pathological short stature can have a profound impact on final adult height. Timely diagnosis and treatment of the underlying etiology, prior to puberty, can result in patients more closely attaining their predicted adult height.
