Description: At the conclusion of this presentation, participants will be able to:
List the different types of hearing loss
Explain hearing testing techniques
Discuss the problems/difficulties encountered by children as a consequence of hearing loss
Describe the signs of hearing loss, and appropriate referral strategies

The presentation will begin with an overview of the types of hearing
loss most prevalent in children. Following will be a discussion of both objective and subjective hearing testing techniques used with infants, small children, and adolescents, as well as testing techniques used with special populations. The talk will also include a discussion of the
typical effects of both congenital and acquired hearing loss, as well as ancillary issues, such as auditory processing difficulties. Finally, the signs of hearing impairment, as well as guidelines for appropriate
referral, will be discussed in detail.
