Description: At the conclusion of this presentation, participants will be able to:
Compare the use of broad spectrum antibiotics used prophylacticaly to reduce infections and sepsis in patients receiving cancer treatments
Identify the most common types of organisms to be seen in these patient populations as it relates to antibiotic choices
Discuss the problems with using prophylactic antibiotics and how this is weighed against benefits
Explain treatment recommendations and emerging protocols for using antibiotics to prevent infections and fevers in cancer patients
