Description: At the conclusion of this presentation, participants will be able to:
Recognize different causes of red eye
Properly manage many types of red eye
Determine which patients should be referred for specialty care
Explain the different causes of sudden blindness
Properly manage the patient that has suddenly lost vision

Any healthcare provider in a primary care office, urgent care center or emergency room frequently encounters patients with a red eye. This lecture will describe various forms of red eye. By the end of the lecture the attendee should be better able to recognize different etiologies of red eye and be comfortable managing these conditions. The second part of the presentation will deal with different causes of sudden blindness. The attendee will develop an understanding of how to approach a patient that has suddenly lost vision. The attendee will also have a better understanding of the appropriate tests to order in these patients and of the proper management of their conditions. The issue of the timing of specialist referrals will be discussed for both topics.
