Description: At the conclusion of this presentation, participants will be able to:
Differentiate and identify patients with neuropathic pain
Identify and distinguish treatment modalities for acute versus neuropathic pain
Stratify and formulate individualized evidence-based treatments for neuropathic pain patients

Neuropathic pain is a common presentation in primary care and frustrating for the clinician to treat because of the lack of consistently effective treatments. While traditional medications are accompanied with significant side effects, newer medications, including anti-epileptic drugs, have shown significant improvements in the control of pain in these difficult cases with improved side effect profiles. This presentation will review pain classification and current pharmacological and non-pharmacological modalities with the greatest chances of success of controlling neuropathic pain.
