State-of-the-Art: Non-invasive Cardiovascular Risk Management: "Pathways to the Future"    Home

Category: CME
Sub-Category: CARD/PREV
Date: 5/28/2006
Time:1:00 PM to 1:45 PM
Facility: Moscone Convention Center
Location: Hall D
Description: At the conclusion of this presentation, participants will be able to:
Recognize the importance of targeting all coexisting risk factors in a patient at risk for heart disease
Cite studies that support this new shift toward a comprehensive strategy of cardiovascular risk management
Realize that all risk factors for CVD are modifiable through the use of optimal pharmacologic treatment and lifestyle changes
Cite successful therapeutic strategies to help patients
Recognize that obstacles and challenges to the optimal management of CV risk can be overcome with current guidelines and clearly defined treatment goals
Discuss possible future treatment modalities

While cardiovascular (CV) risk factors, such as hypertension and dyslipidemia, have historically been treated as separate entities, there has been a shift away from treating individual risk factors in isolation toward a comprehensive strategy focusing on the whole patient. We will look at the growing body of evidence showing the multifactorial etiology of CV disease, most often caused by a group of easily measured and modifiable risk factors, as well as the complexities in their management.
